The origin of the cross goes back to 1901, when the pope Lion XIII asked all towns to erect crosses to commemorate the new century. In 1902 a new cross designed by Lluís Domènech i Montaner and promoted by Marià Serra. This monument, though, came down in 1926 due to very strong winds. The second cross was a copy of the former and came up later. When the war came, the anarchist movement decided to demolish it, in July 1936. The current cross is from 1954 and it was built the impulse of a group of young cathlics.
